10/25: Breastfest at Brothers Lounge

What began eight years ago as a small, informal group of local women musicians and artists spotlighting breast cancer and raising some money for related charities has grown into an annual event that brings together some of the area’s most talented female performers. This year’s lineup is the largest and most impressive yet, with mainstays like event founder Tracy Marie, blues singer/trumpeter Kristine Jackson, singer-songwriters Alexis Antes and Robin Stone, and many others. The event kicks off at noon with a drum circle, followed by a mix of 20-minute acoustic and full-band sets, culminating with a half-hour set by Akron pop-rockers Rachel’s Secret Stache and an hour-long set by funk band Mary Player and SWANK. It takes place at the Brothers Lounge (11609 Detroit Ave., 216.226.2767). Tickets are $10; money raised goes to several local charities that provide services to breast-cancer patients.
