11/3: Christopher Buckley at Playhouse Square

Christopher Buckley — son of the late conservative intellectual William F. — endorsed Barack Obama last year and had a falling out with National Review as a result. “I am a small-government conservative who clings tenaciously and old-fashionedly to the idea that one ought to have balanced budgets,” he wrote on his Daily Beast blog. “Obama has in him — despite his sometimes airy-fairy ‘We are the people we have been waiting for’ silly rhetoric — the potential to be a good, perhaps even great leader. He is, it seems clear enough, what the historical moment seems to be calling for.” Buckley — a bestselling political satirist who’s penned 12 books — takes part in the Cuyahoga County Public Library Foundation’s Writers Center Stage Series tonight. No doubt he’ll push his most recent work, Losing Mum and Pup: A Memoir, which is about the deaths of his parents. He speaks at 7:30 p.m. at Playhouse Square's Ohio Theatre (1511 Euclid Ave., 216.241.6000). Tickets: $30. — Michael Gill
