1/17: Polka Brunch at the Beachland

The Beachland Tavern’s weekly brunches are a treat any Sunday, with well-prepared, moderately priced dishes — many of them vegetarian or even vegan — and hip indie music provided by various DJs. It’s also been hosting weekly swing-dance lessons in the Ballroom next door. Today, the food, music and dancing come together for a special themed Polka Brunch in the Ballroom (15711 Waterloo Rd., 216.383.1124), cosponsored by the Cleveland-Style Polka Hall of Fame in Euclid. The Chardon Polka Band — a group of twentysomething polka aficionados from Geauga County — will offer the mix of both traditional and rocked-up renditions of much-loved polka tunes that’s been building their buzz around the area for the past six years. Valerie Salstrom of Get Hep Swing, who teaches the Sunday swing-dance classes, will show people how to polka along to the music of a band that calls itself “the most feared and powerful group in polka today.” Even the menu will go old-school this week, offering classic Sunday-brunch favorites. It runs from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Tickets are $12; kids under 12 are $6. — Anastasia Pantsios
