12/4: Molkie Cole at the Wincester

Back in the Mesozoic Era (or the 1970s, as it’s otherwise known), no local band had more sophisticated stage presence or diverse set lists than Molkie Cole. The prog-pop quintet covered the Eastern seaboard, the Midwest and the Southeast with a relentless and organized fury, eventually notching close to 1,000 shows and opening for Meat Loaf, Cheap Trick, Ted Nugent and scores of others. Their set featured a cornucopia of originals and arranged covers. Molkie Cole understood the importance of their road crew too, always referring to the band as a 10-piece: five musicians, five crew members. The group has re-formed for mini-reunions in recent years, but this weekend’s shows double as holiday extravaganzas and 40th anniversary concerts. Expect lights, smoke, precision and fun. They start at 9 p.m. tonight and tomorrow at the Winchester Tavern (12112 Madison Ave., 216.226.5681). Tickets: $20. — Brian Baker
