2/12-14: Extra, Extra at CPT

Composers in the information age have used all kinds of tech gadgets — from cell phones to laptops — to make music. This weekend, composer Michael Bratt and his collaborators in the FiveOne new-music ensemble join forces with dancers and choreographers Carly Dorman and Sara Lawrence-Sucato for something a little more old-school. Their show Extra, Extra is based on the daily paper. “Classifieds, death notices, news stories, sports stories — each piece has choreography and music composed to celebrate that aspect of the newspaper,” says Bratt. The collective of composers — mostly graduate students at the Cleveland Institute of Music — celebrate the dying medium, says Bratt, because it allows each of them way to work independently on their themes, yet all the pieces fit together. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. today and tomorrow and 3 p.m. Sunday at Cleveland Public Theatre (6415 Detroit Ave., 216.631.2727). Tickets: $12-$15. — Michael Gill
