Soul man Blowfly (born Clarence Reid) may be nearly deaf and almost decrepit, but don’t count him out yet. The guy’s career has undergone a resurgence over the past few years. Often credited with releasing the first rap record (1965’s “Rap Dirty”), Blowfly has also recorded X-rated covers like “Shittin’ on the Dock of the Bay.” Ice-T, AC/DC and the Red Hot Chili Peppers cite him as an influence, which is explored in The Weird World of Blowfly, a new documentary that will debut at the South by Southwest music festival next month. Blowfly is in the studio putting the finishing touches on his first album in four years. He’s also on tour, performing R&B and X-rated hip-hop sets.
