2/5: Sweet Honey in the Rock at PlayhouseSquare

Sweet Honey in the Rock have evolved steadily over their four-decade career, with almost two dozen voices contributing to the genteel gumbo of their sound. Founder Bernice Johnson Reagon retired in 2004, but two of her original collaborators still sing with the group, which has released an album almost every year over the past decade. Their mix of influences — spirituals, civil-rights music, blues, gospel, African chant, jazz — also plays well for kids: The group earned a pair of Grammy nominations for Best Children’s Album in 2000 and 2008. Tri-C brings Sweet Honey in the Rock to town for a performance at 8 p.m. at Playhouse Square's Ohio Theatre (1501 Euclid Ave., 216.241.6000). Tickets: $10-$45. — Michael Gill
