3/6: Stacey Earle and Mark Stuart at Kent Stage

Married country musicians are part of the scene. It goes all the way back to pioneers A.P. & Sara Carter, up through Johnny and June, George and Tammy, all the way to Tim and Faith. Stacey Earle and Mark Stuart aren’t Nashville’s best-known power couple, but they may be the hardest working. According to Stuart, the duo has spent more than 250 days a year on the road together over the past 13 years. Their itinerary includes clubs, coffeehouses, house concerts, festivals, workshops — just about anywhere they can share their songs. Musically, Stuart (not to be confused with the Bastard Sons’ frontman with the same name) and Earle (Steve’s little sis) share similarities with another Americana couple: Buddy and Julie Miller. Stuart is the nimble, versatile guitar picker; Earle is the one with a soulful twang in her voice. Together, their engaging, folksy sound draws upon a variety of roots-music sources. For tonight’s show, Earle says they’ll play “a little bit of everything,” including new solo material. In fact, their Drive Her ’Til She Drops tour signals a significant marker for the pair. In the future, they plan to do more outside projects — both as solo performers and possibly larger band settings, while continuing to work as a duo.
