Mac McClelland has done some daring things as a Mother Jones writer and editor, including posing as a call girl and embedding herself in dumpster-diving culture. In 2006, she went to Thailand as a volunteer and found that the people she was living with were associated with a U.S.-designated terrorist organization fomenting revolution against the Burmese dictatorship. She wrote a book about it, For Us Surrender Is Out of the Question, which explores the world’s longest running war as seen by people living in the middle of it.
