4/15-17: Bill Bellamy at Hilarities

Stand-up comic Bill Bellamy set his goals high when he was growing up in New Jersey during the ’70s. “I wanted to make it big,” he says. “I wanted to become a comedian. I wanted to act.” The former MTV VJ starred in the ’90s films How to Be a Player, Love Jones and Any Given Sunday. He was also in the short-lived TV show Fastlane in 2002. “I’m thankful for all of the work,” says Bellamy. “I love the shows I’ve been on, but I also love doing stand-up.” Bellamy often looks back in his act. “I don’t know what happened [with MTV],” he says. “I miss the days when MTV was about music. But I can’t say anything bad about MTV. They gave me some serious exposure. They’re part of the reason that I’m where I’m at today.” Bellamy performs at 8 tonight, and at 7:30 and 10:15 p.m. tomorrow and Saturday at Hilarities at Pickwick & Frolic (2035 E. 4th St., 216.736.4242). Tickets: $18-$25. — Ed Condran
