5-30: Case Western Reserve Book Sale

Maybe you’re like me: You really don’t need any more books. You have piles of them you’ve been meaning to read. So you are not going to the Case Western Reserve Book Sale this weekend. You’re not even going to think about Adelbert Gymnasium (2128 Adelbert Rd.) turning into a vast book warehouse for the next four days. You’re going to think about all that cleaning and planting you need to do and … well, it can’t hurt to just go and look, can it? Ha! One of the area’s oldest and largest book sales, the CWRU sale (now in its 63rd year) attracts donations from the educated and well-read university community — who are probably clearing off shelf space for the books they’re going to buy. So it’s not just dog-eared textbooks and Ann Coulter’s latest. You’ll find fine-quality art and photography books, collectible first editions, hot new fiction, beat-era poetry and novels, among other things. You can pay $20 from 10 a.m.-noon today to get first crack; doors open to the public for free from noon-6 p.m. The sale continues tomorrow and Monday from noon-5 p.m., with reduced prices Monday.
