6-3: Brew at the Akron Zoo

We usually wouldn’t advocate drinking anything harder than Red Bull around lions, bears and other wild animals. You kinda want to be sober just in case you need to run like hell from angry packs of them. That’s hard to do after consuming a six of Bud. But tonight’s Brew at the Zoo event at the Akron Zoo sounds like it should be relatively safe. So go ahead and drink up! Hosted by the Young Professionals, the three-hour shindig includes beer (from Ohio Brewing), apps and live music by Half Moon Jack. There’ll be tasting stations set up throughout the park, so you can sample, say, ale by the alligators or a pilsner near the penguins. (If you don’t trust your drunk ass around all those animals, you can just hang out in the beer tent all night.) There’s also a drawing to win a free year-long membership to the zoo, which might come in handy if you need to apologize to the monkeys. It all starts at 6 p.m. at the Akron Zoo (500 Edgewood Ave., 330.375.2550). Tickets: $11. — Michael Gallucci
