6/20: Roomful of Blues

Adversity has always been good for those who play the blues, but the members of Roomful of Blues have had more than their share. Yet they soldier on, still Raisin’ a Ruckus, as they put it on their 15th album in a career that spans 40 years and 50 members. More than any album in their catalog, Ruckus features a wealth of original material, including a couple by new singer Dave Howard, who took over for Mark DuFresne just before the band hit the studio last year. The album also features Roomful of Blues’ new rhythm section of bassist Dimitry Gorodetsky and drummer Ephraim Lowell. Seeing that Roomful of Blues isn’t the sort of band that labors over creative evolution — and that the membership has been in a constant state of flux for nearly their entire existence — they remain fairly consistent from album to album. And onstage. Rhythm Syndicate opens at 9 p.m. at the Brothers Lounge (11609 Detroit Ave., 216.226.2767). Tickets: $10 advance, $12 day of show. — Brian Baker
