8/6: Lil Wayne at Blossom

c784/1249482448-lilwayne.jpgLil Wayne’s new CD — the long-delayed rock one he’s been promising all year — is supposed to come out in a couple of weeks. But it’s missed a few other deadlines, so we’re not holding our breath. If Rebirth’s first two singles — “Prom Queen” and “In Your Face” — are any indication, the album keeps its word on the loud, guitar-oriented sound Weezy’s been hyping ever since he released Tha Carter III last year. But that loud, guitar-oriented sound isn’t a very durable or particular convincing one. After a zillion stellar mixtape appearances, it’s easy to start thinking he’s invincible. But the rap-rock hybrid Wayne lays down on “Prom Queen” and “In Your Face” is almost as weak as Limp Bizkit’s. Thankfully, the America’s Most Wanted Music Festival will include a typically what-fucking-planet-are-you-from? set by Wayne. Which means you might hear some Rebirth tracks. You’ll most likely hear some from Tha Carter. And you’re guaranteed to see a performance that’s equal parts inspiration, ego and weed-enhanced lunacy. Lil Wayne (with Young Jeezy, Soulja Boy and Drake) plays Blossom Music Center (1145 W. Steels Corners Rd., Cuyahoga Falls, 330.920.8040) at 7 p.m. Tickets: $29.75-79.95. — Michael Gallucci
