8/7: On an Average Day at BNC

John Kolvenbach’s play On an Average Day is about two long-separated brothers reuniting in an apartment. One seems to have his life together; the other is a sociopathic slob, facing jail time for throwing a man from a car. The two of them unfold a shared history of abandonment that culminates in a protracted fight. It’s probably the closest the Bang and the Clatter will ever get to staging The Odd Couple. Scott Shriner and Sean Derry play the brothers, while Alanna Romansky (a regular on BNC stages) takes her first turn at directing. It opens at 8 tonight with performances through August 22. But there’s no show on August 14 because Derry and Romansky will both be in Pittsburgh for the premiere of the Blair Underwood film The Bridge to Nowhere, in which both have parts. Performances are at the Bang and the Clatter’s A Shot Rings Out theater (51 E. Market St., Akron, 330.606.5317). Tickets: $15. — Michael Gill
