8/8: Bug City at Garfield Park

You know whether your kids will be fascinated or grossed out — there’s probably no middle ground — by Bug City. From 11 a.m.-4:30 p.m. today, the Garfield Park Nature Center at the Garfield Park Metroparks Reservation (11350 Broadway Ave., Garfield Hts., 216.341.3152) turns into a hive of activities relating to creepy, crawly things. “Mayor Mantis” will welcome families to Bug City’s eight districts, which include “Buggywood,” “Culinary Bugstitute” and “Predator Alley.” There’ll be music, games, a puppet show, exhibits, gardening demonstrations, bug-cooking demonstrations with free samples for those training for the next edition of Survivor and even a mealworm race. It’s free; refreshments will be for sale and rides on the Bug Express train are $1. — Anastasia Pantsios
