9/7: 11th Congressional District Parade and Festival

The 11th Congressional District Community Caucus Annual Parade and Festival is an east-side tradition that was launched by former congressman Louis Stokes in the ’70s and carried on by successors Stephanie Tubbs Jones and, currently, Marcia Fudge. The parade steps off at 11 a.m. from East 146th and Kinsman (Fudge is this year’s grand marshall) and ends up at Luke Easter Park, where the festival starts at noon. There’s food, crafts, marching bands, line dancing, face painting and entertainment by a variety of local performers, including Dave Tolliver, former lead singer of Cleveland-based Men at Large, who had several R&B hits in the ’90s. He’s promoting his debut solo CD, Blaq Pavarotti. There’ll be a kids’ village and a seniors’ tent, voter registration and lots of information about event partner the 2010 U.S. Census, which will explain the impact of an accurate count. Call 216.906.8952 for information, or just show up with your family and friends. It’s free. — Anastasia Pantsios
