9/9: Benjy Ferree at Beachland

Benjy Ferree’s Come Back to the Five and Dime Bobby Dee Bobby Dee is a concept album about the sordid life and death of Bobby Driscoll, a child actor who was part of Walt Disney’s stable in the 1950s (he was the voice of Peter Pan in the studio’s 1953 animated hit). Ferree’s cleverly stylish, effortlessly fluid lyrics capture street-level Americana from fresh, curious vantage points. His smooth, hummable melodies glue themselves to your brain, strengthened by a soulful voice that falls somewhere between Jack White’s and Freddie Mercury’s. With a cool, moody swagger that borders on showy melodrama, Ferree presents a new-school version of T.Rex and Mott the Hoople’s least glammy moments. The Black Hollies open at 9 p.m. at the Beachland Tavern (15711 Waterloo Rd., 216.383.1124). Tickets: $8. — Michael David Toth
