The stage is set tonight and tomorrow for 42 Northeast Ohio bands to compete in the
Battle of Standing Rock Quarterfinals. This week, judges will whittle the field down to 10 groups that will return for the semifinals in three weeks. The resulting five finalists will compete at the May 26 finale. Acts are judged on originality, onstage presence, and the quality of two original songs. Winners snag 10 hours of free studio time and a concert at the Kent Stage. Audience reaction also plays a key part in the final tally. "You gotta generate charisma or bring a lot of friends," says organizer Jeff Ingram.
