The spotlight rarely shines on the poor trombone. It always sits in the back of the orchestra. And even though it occasionally snags a prominent part within large symphonic pieces, it’s rarely awarded a lengthy solo. The Oberlin Trombone Choir, which is made up of nearly two dozen trombonists from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, aims to right this injustice. The group performs a show in Tremont tonight, playing everything from ancient Baroque pieces to flashy contemporary tunes. You’re in for a treat: Leader James DeSano was the Cleveland Orchestra’s principal trombonist for years and is one of the best trombonists in the business.
