Black & Blue All Over

Dinner jackets mix with denim tonight at the third annual Black & Blue Ball in the Flats. "Most couples don't have to fight about what to wear at this gala," says spokeswoman Sharon Howser of the party-throwing Northern Ohio Hemophilia Foundation. "If the wife wants to dress up and the husband wants to stay in his jeans, this is where they both can be happy." The "comfy-chic" dress code goes along with an appetizer buffet of chicken teriyaki, cheeses, and bacon-wrapped water chestnuts. There will also be an open bar flowing with beer, wine, and mixed drinks. And revelers can cap off the night at a dessert station of tarts and chocolate-coated fruit. Meanwhile, the Marino Brothers will work the turntables during an auction of travel packages, memorabilia, and cookware signed by Cleveland's own Iron Chef Michael Symon, who's chipped in a couple of gift certificates to his upscale restaurants, Lola and Lolita. The bidding is expected to raise at least $60,000 for the agency's outreach programs throughout the region. "People like looking and feeling good about supporting an important cause. It's a no-fuss, fun way to get the message out," says Howser. "It's an evening worth dressing up — or down — for, whatever your lifestyle."
