High-schoolers get a taste for college life at CSU.

Cleveland State University shows off its collegiate colors at today’s Fusion program for black and Latino high school students. The purpose is to introduce juniors and graduating seniors to CSU’s campus life before they pony up tuition for the fall semester. “This can seal or break the deal,” says Tanese Horton, the university’s admissions coordinator. “If they feel connected to the university, they begin to see themselves here.”

During today’s program, students will be introduced to several of the campus’ minority-led clubs -- including Latinos Unidos and AHANA for black, Hispanic, and Native American students. They can also pick up grant and scholarship application packets in the University Center. Plus, there’s a complimentary lunch and a campus tour, where kids will learn all about minority-based fraternities and sororities. “You need to identify with other minorities’ experiences,” says Horton. “At the end of the day, I’ll be happy if they loved CSU enough to want to apply.”
