Crash Course

Stand-up comic Roz G was recently in a car accident. But unlike all the other people who were involved in the crash, Roz didn’t go to the hospital. “All they was thinking about was, ‘I’m gonna get me some money,’” she says. “If something was wrong with me, I’d go to the hospital. Ain’t nothing wrong with me. I’m taking my ass home.”

It’s that toughness that helped Roz through her early years as a New Jersey social worker. But she eventually got too attached to her clients. “I took on everybody’s problems,” she recalls. So she quit and became a comedian. “I ain’t got jokes,” she says. “I got problems.” She’s also got something funny to say about First Lady Laura Bush: “She looks like the man from the Quaker Oatmeal box. Next time you see her on TV, you gonna be like, ‘Roz was right! She does look like Mr. Quaker Oats!’”
