FRI 1/30

He's a giant, furry visitor who drops in from time to time, seemingly just to satisfy his ravenous appetite. No, it's not Uncle Al. It's the Yeti, and on Friday, Summit County Metroparks is conducting a Search for the Abominable Snowman. First, "We're gonna talk about some of the signs to look for," says naturalist Mike Greene, who leads the hunt. "We're going to see if he's been around and hear some stories of past encounters." Then it's on to the actual quest. The good news is, the big guy's been spotted frequently in Northeast Ohio, Greene says. Telltale signs include the odd dead, mutilated deer; mad howling; and large footprints. "And [he has] this particularly rank smell," Greene offers. "We'll also be looking for evidence of poop." Join in the fun beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the F.A. Seiberling Naturealm, 1828 Smith Road in Akron. Admission is free, but registration is required; call 330-865-8065. -- Allen Miller
