Gutter Ball

Have fun with comedy troupe's raunchy skits. You're the one who thought them up.

Like most improv comedy troupes, Columbus' Full Frontal Nudity takes a chance when it invites audience members into the act. Its free showcase tonight in the Flats won't be any different. To drum up ideas for off-the-cuff sketches, the cast will ask the crowd for one-word suggestions to riff on. "If they stop for dinner and drinks before the show, that stuff goes straight for the gutter. And that's kinda cool," says comedian Stephen Woosley, who's been yukking it up with the 12-member group since 2006. "We all love fart and dick jokes. But we don't want that for an hour, and a lot of people won't want to watch it either."Comic vets Chris Lane and Ric Shoemaker founded the ensemble in 1993. Seven years later, they signed on to become the residential improv troupe for Columbus' MadLab Theatre. The actors have since been applauded for their annual A Cannibal Christmas holiday show and their ongoing sci-fi skit, "FFN in Space." Tonight's show marks their first time in Cleveland as an ensemble. "I know we'd like to do more traveling. And since it's the weekend, we'll probably stay the night," says Woosley. "Our plan is, if we don't get the hotel manager calling us while we're there and telling us we're too loud, then we made the trip a success." The show goes on at 8 tonight at the Powerhouse Pub, 2000 Sycamore Street on the West Bank of the Flats. Admission is free. Call 216-861-4982 or visit www.myspace.com/publaughs.
