Hearts Full of Blues

New England octet remembers late bandmate in blues blast.

Vince Vaughn dull documentaries Directed by Ari Sandel. Featuring Vince Vaughn, Justin Long, John Caparulo, Sebastian Maniscalco, Bret Ernst, and Ahmed Ahmed. 100 minutes. Rated R. Opens Friday.
To outsiders, Roomful of Blues looks like it has reason to celebrate as it sets out on tour to pimp its 14th CD, Raisin' a Ruckus. But the New England-based octet is still mourning last month's death of its 60-year-old trumpeter, Bob Enos, from a heart attack. "We still set up his stand and mic when we play," says Chris Vachon, the band's guitarist. "We're just trying to decide which way to go from this." Enos' last contributions to the CD will be showcased tonight when the group stops in Cleveland. The disc's 14 tracks include eight originals that feature the band's bluesy, big-band sound, its trademark since recording its first album, Hot Little Mama, in 1981. "For a lot of people that say they don't like the blues, they probably just listen to the same thing over and over again," says Vachon. "A lot of blues just have one sort of side to it, but that's not what we do."The ensemble plans to tour North America and Europe through the end of August, with a memorial concert planned next month in Rhode Island. Then it's off to Canada and the Azores for a couple of blues fests. "The rest of being on the road kinda stinks: The hotels, the food isn't the greatest, and a lot of us are in our 60s now," says Vachon. "But the best part is getting onstage, turning people on, and having a good time." Roomful of Blues performs at 8:30 tonight at Wilbert's Food & Music, 821 Huron Road. Tickets are $15.
