Tim Swan has been a club manager long enough to know that diamonds really are a girl's best friend. To prove his point, he hosts the Incredible Diamond Giveaway at Panini's every Thursday. It works like this: At the DJ booth, Swan lays out a green velvet cloth, on which he sprinkles 100 cubic zirconia. Among the $2 rocks is a quarter-karat diamond worth a cool $200. When a woman buys a drink, she is handed a golden token. At the top of the hour, she can turn in the token for a chance to pick out the diamond. When she makes her choice, a jeweler shines an ultraviolet light on it. If the red light comes on, she's picked a dud; if it turns green, the diamond is hers. "In the corner, we'll hear, 'Oh, my God!'" says Swan. "It's kinda like looking in a cookie jar." The great gem giveaway takes place from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Panini's at the Riviera, 16719 Detroit Avenue in Lakewood. Admission is free. Call 216-521-8204 for more information. -- Cris Glaser
