Cupid's Crisis," December 13, 2006] bemoaned the fact that the city's organized Jewish events are either romance killers — ice skating at the community center, anyone? — or magnets for the Napoleon Dynamite set. Boy, were we wrong.
Saturday night at the
Grog Shop, a Jewish Community Federation group is hosting an unprecedented throw down. In honor of Purim -- the holiday that actually encourages costumes and heavy drinking (yes, we are the chosen people; thanks for asking) — it's holding an eveent called
Masquerade Double Dutch Extravaganza.
The event will feature folk-punk band
Golem and "rock extravaganza"
Bling Kong, which includes four cheerleaders, three drummers, guitars, and a video DJ. The jump-rope group
Double Dutch Will Take You Higher will perform.
It all promises to be a very, um, sweaty time.
The all-ages party starts at 9 p.m. tomorrow, and tickets --
which can be purchased from the Devil, also known as Ticketmaster -- are just $7 . So grab your 13-year-old cousin and come on down!
