'Kids in the Hall' coming to Cleveland

Kids in the Hall, one of the all-time great comedy troupes, plays Playhouse Square’s Palace Theater (1519 Eucild Ave., downtown) at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 31. Tickets are $39.75 via Tickets.com or PlayHouseSquare.org, 216-241-6000. They go on sale 9 a.m. Friday, April 11. Formed in 1984, the group is best known for its HBO series that ran from 1988 through 1995, and less so for the 1996 movie Brain Candy. The kids’ whacked-out sensibilities (or lack thereof) ran the gamut from intellectual to nonsensical, and their propensity for drag cemented comparisons to the all-time comedy greats of Monty Python. For this tour, all five of the members are returning, to perform the Kids’ greatest skits: Scott Thompson (the swishy monologist Buddy Cole), Bruce McCulloch (Gavin the annoying, chatty kid), Dave Foley (Manservant Hecubus, also known as NewsRadio’s Dave Nelson), Kevin McDonald (the “My Pen!”/”Cat on my head!” guy), and Mark McKinney (the Chicken Lady). – D.X.
