Rambler 454 drummer Jason Linder swears the story behind the title of its new EP, Gabe, is true. The local alt-country trio named the five-track CD in tribute to a longtime pal and fan who's been busted for three DUIs over the past year. Remarkably, he beat the charges each time. "He has this unique talent," laughs Linder.

Gabe started out as the group's third full album, but took a detour when band members grew tired of the studio sessions. "We're lazy," shrugs Linder. "We have plenty more material we could have recorded, but we didn't get around to it."

And even though the band doesn't "draw that well," Linder says, there's a burgeoning twang scene in town. "There are some really cool things happening," he says. "It's not as large as it is for the metal guys. But it works for the people who are into it." Rambler 454 plays Nemeth's Lounge (40 North State Street in Painesville) at 10 tonight. Admission is $4.
