Louie the Labrador leads a pack of canines and their owners at todays Hound Hike. Theres only one rule for dogs attending the Geauga Park District event: Keep 'em on a leash. Sometimes they want to sniff each other, says naturalist Dottie Mathiott, Louies owner. But for the most part, they go along for the stroll. Starting at the Burton Wetlands parking lot, the 1.5-mile walk is an easy hike along the Glacial and Kettle trails, where you can spot tracks left behind by foxes, rabbits, and squirrels. Dogs can walk by and tell whos been there and where theyve come from, says Mathiott. If they could only talk, wed know a lot more about nature.
