Mikey G's Entertainment Picks of the Week

This week's top arts and entertainment picks around town, from the guy who's paid to pick them: Monday: Tonight's Cleveland Comedy Festival Preview Showcase gives folks a little taste of what's in store come October, when a bunch of local funny people will try to make you laugh for four whole days. Mike "The Comedy Professor" Veneman, Chris Hegedus, Dave Arena, and Ryan Dalton are on tonight's bill. Tuesday: Pittsburgh punks Anti-Flag headline tonight's House of Blues show, in which a bunch of twentysomething mohawked kids get their Clash on. Anti-Flag's latest CD, For Blood and Empire, is fast, furious, and political. Alexisonfire, Big D and the Kids Table, and Set Your Goals also rock the house. Wednesday: Dean & Britta used to be in Luna. Dean Wareham also fronted the great Galaxie 500 for years; Britta is hands-down indie-rock's hottest bass player. Together, they're noise-pop's cutest couple. They have a new album, and they play the Beachland Tavern tonight. Thursday: The Cleveland Sport, Travel & Outdoor Show at the I-X Center has something for everybody who likes being outside. Hunting, boating, and fishing accessories top the list, but there's plenty of more — like RVs, camping experts, and wild animals. Friday: Despite its title, Smucker's Stars on Ice's latest production, Double Exposure: The Many Lives of Figure Skaters, doesn't really uncover any dirt. Tonight's show essentially skates through a bunch of Olympic champions' dreams, while a pop soundtrack and flashing lights fill the Q. --Michael Gallucci
