This weekend’s top arts and entertainment picks around town, from the guy who’s paid to pick them:
Friday: Seattle singer-songwriter
Laura Veirs looks to the ocean for inspiration on her latest album,
Saltbreakers. She says the CD is about sweat and other liquids that leave behind traces of salt -- like tears. Go hear her get all weepy at the Beachland Tavern at 8:30 p.m.
Saturday: What’s the best thing about the Cavs’ playoff run? (Besides the fact that we may have a champion team to brag about all summer, of course.) That would be the official
viewing parties sponsored by the team. Game three of the Eastern Conference Semifinals beams on the big-ass TVs at Champps in Valley View. The Cavalier Girls hand out prizes, introduce special guests, and cheer on LeBron and the boys, who take on the New Jersey Nets. Tip-off is 5 p.m., but the festivities start an hour earlier.
Sunday: Wanna do something nice for Mom today? (You did remember it’s Mother’s Day, didn’t you?) How about taking her to a special screening of the chick flick
Waitress? In addition to watching the girl who played Felicity serve up some pie, ladies get a gift bag that includes makeup, a copy of Martha Stewart’s mag, and other girly things. Screenings start at 2 p.m. at Regal Crocker Park 16 and Cedar Lee Theatre.
