Name That Tune

Dobama Cleveland theater Through June 1, produced by Dobama Theatre at The Cleveland Play House, 8500 Euclid Avenue, 216-932-3396.
Jazz pianist Joe Hunter will bump up the name-dropping while he tickles the keys at today's What's in a Name? concert with drummer Roy King, bassist Martin Brock, and singers Susan Hesse and Evelyn Wright. "I started thinking how many songs had this theme, incorporating the massive influences in music, like ethnic patterns in the songs by immigrants, the Big Band era, musical theater, and composers like Richard Rodgers and Harold Arlen," says Hunter. "It's getting really difficult to choose which names to include."A part-time prof by day at Cuyahoga Community College, Hunter jams with some of Cleveland's most venerable jazz players. So it's fitting that he would combine music with a history lesson about what's behind each song. They include tunes that you don't hear every day, like "Alice Blue Gown" and "Rosie O'Grady." "It's very flattering to win the hearts of people who have had a personal relationship with these songs," says Hunter. The concert starts at 3 this afternoon at Cuyahoga Community College's Metro Campus, 2900 Community College Avenue. Tickets are $15 to $17. Call 216-241-6000 or visit www.tricjazzfest.com.
