Now You're Cooking

Local celebs step out of the spotlight and behind hot ovens.

Vicki Dansby will stop you at the door if you walk out of tonight's Celebrity Soul Food Cook-Off without tasting the red-and-navy-bean salad of former Browns player Reggie Langhorne. "Everything is so good," says Dansby, who created the tasty event nine years ago to coincide with Black History Month. "But if I had to choose, those beans are by far my favorite."

This year, the competition pits 22 former Cleveland sports stars and media personalities against each other: Cavs announcer Ronnie Duncan will make crab cakes, Fusion linebacker Wanda Ross will whip up fried cabbage, and Langhorne will dish out the beans with old teammates Herman Fontenot and James White.

"They're all southerners, and their food does not taste like mine, because they use different spices than we use up here," says Dansby. "But I'll tell you what — those Browns boys can cook."
