We can't think of a more cumbersome subject for an art installation than crude oil. But local sculptor and performance artist Kristen Baumliér pulls it off in
Oh, Petroleum, now on display at the Sculpture Center, as part of its Windows to Sculpture series. Featuring abstract images, multimedia sounds and videos, and interactive stations, the exhibit presents both a history lesson of the oil business and an examination of contemporary energy use. Graphic charts and video projections allow viewers to take a closer look at the slick, sticky, and highly flammable liquid. It's simultaneously eye-opening and just a little bit unsettling.
Mondays-Fridays, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.; Saturdays, 12-4 p.m. Starts: Jan. 23. Continues through Feb. 17
