We can't think of a more cumbersome subject for an art installation than crude oil. But local sculptor and performance artist Kristen Baumliér pulls it off in Oh, Petroleum
, now on display at the Sculpture Center, as part of its Windows to Sculpture series. Featuring abstract images, multimedia sounds and videos, and interactive stations, the exhibit presents both a history lesson of the oil business and an examination of contemporary energy use. Graphic charts and video projections allow viewers to take a closer look at the slick, sticky, and highly flammable liquid. It's simultaneously eye-opening and just a little bit unsettling.
Mondays-Fridays, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.; Saturdays, 12-4 p.m. Starts: Jan. 23. Continues through Feb. 17
