The list of alt-country pioneers is a long one. It stretches from Dylan-loving '60s folk-rockers the Byrds to mega-selling '70s hedonists the Eagles and beyond. Tonight's concert at Cain Park includes four acts that belong in that class: Poco, Pure Prairie League, Chris Hillman, and New Riders of the Purple Sage. Their family trees include country-rock forefathers Buffalo Springfield, the Eagles, and the Grateful Dead. Hillman was even an original member of both the Byrds and the Flying Burrito Brothers. New CDs by Poco (Bareback at Big Sky) and Pure Prairie League (All in Good Time) adhere to the 30-year-old formula, and Hillman has reworked his old groups' sounds for just as long. Onstage, however, each weaves an energetic mix of rock backbeats and porch sounds.
