Stand-up comedian Godfrey was born in Nebraska, but his parents are Nigerian. When he tells strangers that he's of African descent, "They don't believe me," he says, "because I have clothes on. They're like, ‘Where are your flies and your belly?'" Even friends are baffled by his Nigerian American status. "They say, ‘We thought you was regular black'," says Godfrey, whose onstage act includes impressions of Bill Cosby, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and James Earl Jones. "I say, ‘You don't believe me? Call my house.' My father answers, and you think you're talking to the Lion King."
