Princess Brides

Latest Disney extravaganza is one for the girls.

Robin Johnstone, one of the skating stars in Disney on Ice’s Princess Wishes, insists that the production appeals to boys just as much as it does girls. “We have a prince slaying a dragon and Aladdin and the Genie,” she says. “Boys like that.” But there’s no denying the girl-centric appeal of Disney’s latest skate extravaganza, which features center-rink solos from Ariel, Belle, Cinderella, Mulan, Jasmine, Sleeping Beauty, and Snow White.

Unlike many Disney on Ice productions, Princess Wishes doesn’t follow a narrative. Rather, the characters make wishes -- all of which involve sparkly tiaras, accessorized gowns, and ice skates. “We’re doing jumps and spins and kicks,” says Johnstone. “Thankfully, our costumes are skater-friendly. They’re not short little dresses.”
