Prog-rock vets break away for duo act.

With many of their original compositions written on the piano in E-flat minor, Mike Dolsen and Roman Zmudzinski thought it was only appropriate to name their musical duo The Black Key Projekt. But the pair find it more of a challenge to describe their signature sound. "It may be hard to categorize, but it most likely could be considered progressive rock with jazz and fusion tendencies," says Dolsen. To back the claim, they combine keyboards, synthesizers, drums, and percussion, composing dark and melodic "electronic and ambient sounds" as a respite from their other prog-rock band, Venn Diagram. The Projekt opens for Geoffe Hein & Frozen Ghost at 9:30 tonight at the Winchester, 12112 Madison Avenue in Lakewood. Tickets are $7. Call 216-226-5681 or visit www.thewinchester.net.
