After hearing a few tunes by Great Big Sea, you suspect the band comes from a place where they spear giant squids for a living. Most of the songs on its new album, The Hard and the Easy, are about mermaids, pirates, and even cod liver oil. So it's little surprise that the rockers — who mix folk, Celtic, and pop — hail from Newfoundland.
