Tonight’s screening of The Seventh Seal marks two occasions. It pays tribute to the great Swedish director Ingmar Bergman, who passed away in July. Seal, made in 1957, is his best work -- an existential masterpiece about a wayward knight, the grim reaper, and the world’s most famous chess match. The movie also kicks off the Cinematheque’s two-month “50 Years of Janus Films” series, which honors the company that has distributed many foreign classics in the U.S. over the past five decades. visit www.cia.edu.
