The Seventh Seal marks two occasions. It pays tribute to the great Swedish director Ingmar Bergman, who passed away in July. Seal, made in 1957, is his best work -- an existential masterpiece about a wayward knight, the grim reaper, and the worlds most famous chess match. The movie also kicks off the Cinematheques two-month 50 Years of Janus Films series, which honors the company that has distributed many foreign classics in the U.S. over the past five decades. visit www.cia.edu.
