It doesnt matter that St. Patricks Day was a week ago. Its gonna be a celebration of the green all over again when the Bronx-based
Black 47 plays Wilberts tonight. While the bands brand of Celtic rock isnt as rousing as the Pogues or as revelatory as Van Morrisons, its way more sociopolitical than either (the groups moniker refers to the worst year of the potato famine that plagued Ireland in the 19th century). But dont let the history lessons scare you away. Once the pipes, whistles, and guitars kick in, its all about keeping the feet moving. Black 47s latest CD, Bittersweet Sixteen, compiles 15-plus years of fan faves like Home of the Brave and Funky Ceili. Its a great introduction to the band.
