The weather may be cold, but nothing delivers a toasty punch better than tequila. See for yourself next Wednesday, January 31 at
One Walnut, when chef-owner Marlin Kaplan hosts a Tequila and Wine Tasting, complete with a lineup of Brazilian and Spanish-style appetizers.
The fiesta runs from 6 to 9 p.m., and features seven tequilas, including tastings of highly regarded Cielo and Don Julio, in blanco, reposado, and anejo styles. (The heavily promoted Jose Cuervo Black Medallion is on the menu, too.) And among the half-dozen wines, sample Spain's Marques de Grinon Syrah and Argentina's Dona Paula Estate Malbec.
Regional cheeses, charcuterie, olives, and tapenades will be served beginning at 6; from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., the heavy apps arrive --- wine-steamed mussels, sherried shrimp with spicy fruit relish, spiced pork brochettes in blood-orange glaze, and the like.
The cost is a mere $40. And while One Walnut is a very classy joint, Kaplan promises that jeans are just fine for what he is calling a "casual" affair. For reservations, grab your credit card and call 216-575-1111 by Friday, January 26.
