Town Fryer: You Can Leave Their Hat On

A high school friend once warned that men should never wear hats because they "cut off the oxygen to their hair." That fashion no-no leads to baldness, she said. (What can we say? She once competed in the now-defunct Miss Lorain County Pageant, but we digress.) For years, we dutifully remembered her words of caution every time we walked by a stand of baseball caps, with visions of Rogaine and Hair Club for Men dancing in our heads. Until Thursday night. At the Town Fryer on Superior, owner Susie Porter encourages patrons to wear the Mexican sombreros, firemen's hats, and rabbit ears hanging on the walls while roots-rock bands like the Rocket 88s jam in the corner of the cozy neighborhood hole in the wall. We don't quite get her M.O., but who's going to throw down with the boss? -- Cris Glaser
