Vegas, Baby!

This comic's so money, even Mel Tormé knows it.

It's tough to overlook the Midnight Swinger onstage. With his pompadour 'do and his wide-lapelled jackets, Las Vegas comic David Scott looks and sounds like equal parts Liberace, Sinatra, and Elvis. "This would be what you would see if you were in Vegas and said, 'Hey! Let's go catch a show!'" says Scott, whose stage name is from an old Mel Torme hit. "It's geared toward just having fun, and people walking out afterward and saying they had a good time." All of Scott's shows start and end with his signature "Damn! I look good!" line. In between, he sings to cool-cat lounge beats, makes the audience dance to swing music, and riffs on the battle of the sexes, in which only women know how to gift wrap and only men know how to play the air guitar. The guy who wrote "Midnight Swinger" even caught wind of his act. "I sent him a copy of my DVD. He said he never laughed so much," says Scott. "He wrote a nice little note saying, 'Mel is smiling down from heaven.'" The swinging starts at 8 and 10:15 tonight, and 7 p.m. tomorrow at the Improv, 2000 Sycamore Avenue on the West Bank of the Flats. Tickets are $10 to $16.
