Downtown Cleveland's newest Mexican joint, Zócalo, has figured that it should make up for lost time during Cinco de Mayo. That, or it just really likes to party. Starting tonight, the "tequilería" hosts a five-day fiesta, with $4 Tecate big boys, $5 margaritas, and $6 Mexican car bombs. There's also the $9 ski shot, for which three shots of booze are balanced on a ski board. Revelers then tip over the board while simultaneously trying to toss back the drinks.The restaurant has turned its upstairs dining room into a Mexican-themed cantina, to guarantee enough partying space for margarita-swillers. And its menu of Mexican specialties will be on the ready to help balance the liquids-to-solids ratio in your stomach. Items range from guacamole and empanada apps to chili and tamale combo plates to house specials of burrito con pollo and the fishy Pescado Huachinango, straight from the shores of Veracruz. And the party doesn't stop until Monday night. "We need five days, because one's not enough to celebrate," says Jimmy Hayward, the club's general manager. "In Mexico, they take their time, because it's not a one-day event." Olé! Cinco de Mayo starts at 6 tonight through Monday at Zócalo Mexican Grill & Tequilería, 2071 East Fourth Street.
