Best Columnist: Phillip Morris

Morris, an associate editor of The Plain Dealer's Forum section, is one of the few columnists who chooses substance over style. When he makes a point, he backs it up with sources. Doctors at a gambling treatment facility, for instance, helped Morris show that if loosened gaming laws in Ohio mean more gambling addicts, there ought to be more services for treating them. He also has the guts to take an unpopular stand, as evidenced by the column that chastised state lawmakers for lowering the drunk-driving limit from .1 to .08. Agree with him or not, Morris's columns are always thought-provoking.
