Best Politician: Tim Grendell

In 2000, the Chester Township attorney won an Ohio House seat that had been occupied by his wife, who was unable to run because of term limits. A Mary Bono-like rise to power did not foretell Grendell's current standing as one of the Legislature's most defiant members. He bucked Speaker Larry Householder by voting against a budget bill that raised taxes. Other conservative Republicans who did the same lost their committee assignments. Not Grendell, who does and says virtually as he pleases. We don't endorse his creepy right-wing politics, but on frankness alone, he merits Scene swag. If he becomes speaker one day, we can't wait to watch. Preferably from Canada.
