Best Gay Bar Owner: John Katsaros, Twist

A happy-hour stop at Twist isn't complete until owner John Katsaros makes his rounds, making sure his regulars are sucking up their after-work elixirs. But Katsaros is equally known for his AIDS and gay-rights activism. He commandeered his bar's float in June's gay-pride parade and opened his club so fest organizers could thank their volunteers. In 2004, he helped save the nearly doomed Dancin' in the Streets benefit for the AIDS Taskforce of Greater Cleveland, after the agency admitted that the summertime block party was losing money. "We barely squeak by each passing year without his help," says Earl Pike, the task force's director. "He's been a living doll."
